Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
At Connah’s Quay High School, we strive to meet the needs of all learners within our school. Some learners have barriers to learning which mean they have a need that is additional to and different from their peers and requires particular action by the school. We aim to quickly identify learners, who are making not making expected progress and provide targeted interventions and support to meet their needs. We ensure that parents are fully aware of the ALN process and are informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year. We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for all learners within our care.
ALN in Wales is entering an exciting new period of change. The new ALN Code of Practice was accepted by the Senedd in early 2021. In keeping with the Code of Practice we have now adopted a person-centred approach to ALN; putting the learner and their needs at the centre of the process. Watch this video to find out more:
