Estyn Report

16th October 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to share some fantastic news regarding the progress of our school. Following the recent Estyn monitoring visit in September 2024, I am proud to inform you that Connah’s Quay High School has officially been removed from the ‘requiring significant improvement’ category. This is a significant milestone in our journey of transformation, and we have received a highly positive report from Estyn.

The report highlights the considerable progress we have made since the last core inspection, particularly in leadership, teaching strategies, and learner well-being. Estyn inspectors were especially impressed with the introduction of “The CQHS Way,” which has brought much-needed consistency and clarity to our teaching practices. They stated that, “Strategies such as ‘The CQHS Way’, supported by a range of beneficial professional learning opportunities, have established a common understanding of the school’s expectations regarding effective classroom practice.”

Our senior leadership team was also praised for its role in driving this improvement. The report commended the thoughtful and strategic refinement of leadership roles to align with the school’s priorities, noting that “Senior leadership roles have been refined thoughtfully and strategically in order to meet the school’s priorities and make best use of leaders’ skills and experience.”

In addition, our governing body was acknowledged for its growing role in ensuring accountability and supporting school improvement. Estyn highlighted that “Governors are now fully informed about the work of the school. They play an increasingly important role in holding leaders to account,” reflecting the strengthened governance we have developed.

Teaching quality has also seen significant improvements, with inspectors noting, “In a few particularly effective lessons, teachers plan skilfully with a clear and precise focus on what they want pupils to learn,” and “many teachers monitor pupils’ progress in lessons suitably, offering helpful verbal feedback where appropriate.”

We are particularly proud of the recognition for our efforts in improving learner well-being. Since the core inspection, we have implemented a variety of well-considered measures that have had a positive impact on learners attitudes to learning, engagement, and attendance.

This achievement is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our staff, learners, and governors. However, I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank you, our parents and carers, for your unwavering support throughout this journey. Your encouragement and partnership have played a crucial role in our success, and we are truly grateful.

As we move forward, we remain committed to continually improving and providing the best possible education and support for all our learners. Together, I am confident we will achieve even greater successes.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

James Forber

Headteacher
